Maybe one of the oldest restaurants in Europe, founded in the eighteenth century and sometimes even visited by
the Spanish king himself. "Cordero" as a speciality.

For everybody who not only wants to focus on Spanish cookery. Excellent arabian cuisine in a very stylish restaurant
imitating an arabian oasis.

Las Cuevas de Luis Candelas Cuchilleros1 (Plaza Mayor). Tel.: 91-366 54 28. Metro: Sol.
One of the oldest restaurants in Madrid, built like a hole in the fundament of the Plaza Mayor.
Because of being very near to this famous place, it is often visited by tourists, but without
being an expensive trap.

La Taberna de San Bernardo San Bernardo 85. Tel.: 91-445 41 70. Metro: San Bernardo.
Traditional and very stylish tavern, most of all a meeting point for the inhabitants of the neighbourhood.
Not long ago, the city newspapers chose this place as one of the three best taverns in Madrid.

One of the oldest still existing restaurants in Madrid, founded back in 1830 by the bullfighter
Antonio Sänchez - and still owned by the Sánchez family. Traditional castillian cookery.

A classic spot right in the middle of the former poet quarter near Plaza Santa Ana. Very tasteful interior.
"Boquerones en vinagre" as speciality.

One of the oldest cafés in Madrid, in the nineteenth century one of the most important meeting points for Spanish romantic writers.

Former centre of Spanish literature, especially after the Civil War.

Elegant café right in front of the Royal Palace. In spring and summer, the terrace is an ideal place for having a small rest.

A classic in Madrid nightlife and starting point of the legendary "movida" in the eighties.
